Bahatika uses only materials that are 100% free of animal by-products and derivatives, including Italian microfibre, natural cork, eco vegan leather, and eco vegan suede. They're also made with water-based adhesives.

Are Bahatika shoes sustainable?

Bahatika has a few sustainability measures in place, such as using DHL Green to ship within Germany (Bahatika is headquartered in Neckargemuend, Germany). They are also partnered with One Tree Planted to plant one tree for every pair of shoes sold. We've asked them questions regarding the end-of-life plan for their shoes, and are awaiting reply. It's also not clear how many of their materials are recycled of recyclable.

What other certifications do Bahatika shoes carry?

Bahatika is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, which ensures that every component of any certified article (i.e. every thread, button and other accessories) has been tested for harmful substances and that the article therefore is harmless for human health. It's not immediately clear however, if their entire brand is certified, or just specific items in their catalogue. We've asked them about this and are currently awaiting clarification.
