BioWorld Vegan Shoes Spanish clogs

BioWorld is Likely a Fully Vegan Brand

BioWorld claims that all of their shoes, boots, socks and other products are vegan, that they have carefully researched all of the details to ensure they don’t use any materials of animal origin in their footwear. Although they do not currently have any certification to verify these claims, animal welfare appears to be built into the ethos and mission of the brand.

About BioWorld Vegan Shoes

In recognition of their traditional manufacturing process, the BioWorld workshop is certified as an Artisan Workshop by the Spanish Ministry of Industry.

Are BioWorld shoes intentionally vegan?

It appears so. According to BioWorld, they made the decision to start selling eco-friendly shoes around the year 1995, and started exclusively selling vegan shoes in 2016 (which is well before the market started demanding it).

Are BioWorld shoes eco-friendly/sustainable?

Eco-friendliness has been a brand priority for BioWorld since 1995 (according to their website). This focus has led them adopt the use of some natural materials, such as cork, latex and jute, specifically within their insoles. Some improvements they could make from a sustainability perspective is to introduce newer plant-based leathers, or use more recycled materials in their footwear, in place of their current microfibre.

Does BioWorld use green shipping methods?

It's unclear from their website if BioWorld uses net-zero or negative emissions shipping partners, either domestically or internationally. We have asked them for clarification and are currently awaiting reply.

Does BioWorld use eco-friendly packaging?

It's unclear from their website if BioWorld uses recycled, recyclable, compostable, or other forms of eco-friendly and sustainable packaging. We have asked them for details regarding the materials they use for packaging, and are currently awaiting reply.

Are BioWorld shoes recyclable or compostable?

It’s unclear from the information available on their website if BioWorld’s shoes are recyclable or compostable. We have asked for clarification from the BioWorld team and are currently awaiting reply.

How should I dispose of my worn out BioWorld shoes?

We have asked the BioWorld team if they currently have, or are developing, a shoe recycling program, and are awaiting reply. In the meantime, we recommend donating them to someone in need, or taking them to a clothing recycling depot (if available in your city), which can strip them down to their recyclable components.

Do BioWorld shoes ever go on sale?

Yes! In fact, their website has 2 separate sections that indicate sales, and while exploring these we found discounts ranging from 20-50% on a variety of their shoes, boots and sandals.

Where can I buy BioWorld shoes?

For the time being it looks like BioWorld shoes can only be purchased from their website. We've asked if they have plans to work with retailers and are currently awaiting reply.

What materials are used to make BioWorld shoes, boots and sandals?

BioWorld uses Italian-made vegan microfibre as their main upper material, as well as for the footbeds. Their anatomical insoles are made from natural cork, latex and jute. The BioWorld team has informed us that their glue factory guarantees that there are no animal ingredients in its products (and have even sent us a copy of the supplier's guarantee).

Are BioWorld shoes ethically made?

Yes! BioWorld company owners Cristina and Jesús are actually the ones making the shoes by hand in Spain.

Does BioWorld promote ‘slow fashion’ or a ‘circular economy’?

BioWorld appears to employ some elements of a circular economy, such as using high-quality materials, using some natural materials, handcrafting their shoes, and employing fair labour (their own).

Is BioWorld a charitable company?

We have asked the BioWorld team about any charitable initiatives they're involved with (if any), and are currently awaiting reply, as there is no such information available on their website.
