Fuego Vegan Dance Sneakers

Fuego is Likely a Vegan Brand

Fuego is likely a fully vegan brand. Their vegan dance sneakers (and entire brand) had recently been PETA-approved vegan, which means their suppliers and manufacturers had to sign legal statement of assurance forms, stating that no animal by-products (including glues, dyes and solvents) are used in the production of any of their dance shoes. That certification has since lapsed.

About Fuego

Founded in 2019, Fuego is a brand for which there is very little information available online. We have reached out to their team for answers to some questions relating to the materials used to make their shoes, the ethics of the company, and their sustainability and charity efforts, and the information below comes mainly from those answers.

What materials are used to make Fuego shoes?

The Fugeo team has informed us that their shoes are made with "microfibre and a vegan synthetic leather." We also know, that given their brand's PETA-certified status, they do not contain any materials or ingredients of animal origin (including within the glues).

Are Fuego shoes eco-friendly/sustainable?

Sustainability doesn't seem to be top-of-mind for these vegan dance sneakers, and if it is, they don't do much in the way of communicating it. Their communications don't mention anything about the use of eco-friendly materials, nor efforts to offset the CO2 emissions created during the production process.

Does Fuego use green shipping methods?

It's unclear from their website if Fuego uses net-zero or negative emissions shipping partners, either domestically or internationally. We have asked them for clarification, and they've told us that they don't currently use green shipping methods.

Does Fuego use eco-friendly packaging?

Fuego has informed us that some of their packaging is recyclable, but not many details were given.

Are Fuego shoes recyclable or compostable?

It’s unclear from the information available on their website if Fuego’s shoes are recyclable or compostable. We have asked for clarification from the Fuego team, and they didn't say if they were or weren't.

How should I dispose of my worn out Fuego shoes?

We have asked the Fuego team if they currently have, or are developing, a shoe recycling program, and they've told us that, "generally the shoes are thrown away." Get it Vegan recommends either trying to have them repaired, donating them to someone in need, or taking them to a clothing recycling depot (if available in your city), which can strip them down to their recyclable components.

Where can I buy Fuego shoes?

For the time being it looks like Fuego shoes can only be purchased from their website, or from their social channels. They've informed us that they also have a wholesale program that "several studios and stores" participate in.

Do Fuego vegan dance shoes ever go on sale?

We didn't come across any sales or discounts when visiting their website and social channels. Their newsletter subscription area does however mention that upon subscribing there are "giveaways," although it's not clear if that specifically refers to shoe giveaways.

Are Fuego vegan dance shoes ethically made?

Fuego has informed us that their shoes are made in China - it's difficult for us as an outside, non-certifying 3rd party to verify as to whether or not they ensure their factory provides a safe and fair working environment for their workers. We have reached out to them for clarification, and they couldn't provide any.

Does Fuego promote ‘slow fashion’ or a ‘circular economy’?

Fuego doesn't appear to implement any slow fashion (ethically made, long-lasting, small batch production) or circular economy principles principles, aside from incorporating some recycled materials in their packaging.

Is Fuego a charitable company?

The Fuego team has informed us that they are not currently involved in any charitable initiatives.
