About V.GAN

"We also care for the environment and sustainability. At V.GAN we believe any goal of sustainable development and production is to meet the needs of today without compromising the needs of tomorrow. That is why we use zero plastic and glue in our recycled packaging and fabrics made entirely from ocean waste. Our vegan leathers are high quality, vegan certified and are also eco-friendly." - V.GAN team

Is V.GAN an ethically vegan brand?

V.GAN is an intentionally and ethically vegan brand, rather than one that uses vegan materials out of convenience, or for other reasons. According to the brand, “With V.GAN, you no longer need to compromise on fashion to find high quality vegan, sustainable and animal friendly shoes, boots, trainers and accessories. 100% cruelty free. 100% fashion forward.”

What materials are used to make their footwear?

The only information V.GAN shares on thier website is that their "fabrics are made entirely from ocean waste. Our vegan leathers are high quality, vegan certified and are also eco-friendly." We've asked their team for more information about the materials they use, and are awaiting reply.

Are V.GAN shoes eco-friendly/sustainable?

Determining exactly how environmentally-friendly a shoe is, is a difficult task, and V.GAN does not use any tools or programs that can quantify and share the eco-friendliness of their products, nor do they share much info even about what those materials are in general. While they do use man-made synthetic materials in most of their models, those synthetic materials are still considered to be more environmentally friendly than animal-derived leathers (due to the inclusion of various toxic chemicals used in the tanning process, among other reasons). This is backed up by data from inside the fashion industry as well as outside of it. For the data, please see Collective Fashion Justice’s CIRCUMFAUNA initiative.

Does production of their footwear create a lot of CO2 emissions?

From a carbon footprint standpoint, it's difficult to asses the impact that V.GAN has, and what they do to remediate it. V.GAN does not currently provide data as to their environmental impact or remediation efforts, so it's difficult to accurately asses them in these areas.

Does V.GAN use ‘green’ shipping methods?

We've reached out to the V.GAN team to get further details on this, and are awaiting reply.

Does V.GAN use eco-friendly packaging?

Yes - according to the brand, "We use zero plastic and glue in our recycled packaging."

Are V.GAN shoes recyclable?

It’s unclear from the information available on their website if V.GAN’s shoes are recyclable or compostable. We’ve asked for clarification from their team, and are currently awaiting reply.

How should I dispose of my old V.GAN shoes?

We’ve asked the V.GAN team if they currently have, or are developing, a shoe recycling program, and are awaiting reply. In the meantime, Get it Vegan recommends either trying to have them repaired, donating them to someone in need, or taking them to a clothing recycling depot (if available in your city), which can strip them down to their recyclable components.

Which stores can I buy V.GAN shoes from?

V.GAN shoes can be purchased from their website, and can be shipped worldwide. Their footwear can also be found on Amazon.

Do their shoes ever go on sale?

Yes - when visiting their site, we saw some models being offered at a discount of around 20-40% from their regular price. V.GAN also has a monthly prize raffle for their active newsletter subscribers, and a "Give £10, get £10" program when referring a friend.

Where are V.GAN shoes made?

It's unclear where their shoes, boots, sandals, and slippers are made, so we have reached out for clarification and are awaiting reply.

Are their shoes made with fair labour?

On their website, V.GAN does not make mention of where their shoes are made - as such, it's difficult for us as an outside, non-certifying 3rd party to verify whether or not they ensure their factory enforces all international and local labour laws, regulations and fair working standards to provide a safe and fair working environment for their workers. We've reached out to them for clarification, and are awaiting reply. The brand does say however, that, "Our entire range is free of all animal products and workers in our vegan approved factories are protected by employment and safety laws. We are an animal and human friendly company."

Is V.GAN a charitable company?

We’ve asked their team about any charitable initiatives they're involved with (if any), and are currently awaiting reply, as there is no such information available on their website.

Does V.GAN promote ‘slow fashion’ or a ‘circular economy’?

V.GAN incorporates some elements of a circular economy, such as: avoiding fast fashion-level pricing; using eco-friendly packaging; and incorporating recycled materials.
