Are Will's Vegan Store Shoes waterproof?

Some of their shoes and boots are water-resistant, some are fully waterproof, and some are neither. Within the shoe or boot's description on their website, details are provided as to the level of water-resistance of that model.

Is Will's Vegan Store an ethically vegan brand?

Will's Vegan Store is an intentionally and ethically vegan brand, rather than one that uses vegan materials out of convenience, or for other reasons. According to the brand, "We don’t believe in doing something to protect animals whilst harming humans and the planet. We are all animals. All life needs safeguarding. We need to protect the environment we share. We are a cruelty-free vegan store."

What materials are used to make their shoes & boots?

According to Will's Vegan Store, "Most of our footwear and accessories are made from Italian bio-based vegan leather made from plants (cereal crops). The latest version contains 69% bio-oil and a viscose (a natural material from eucalyptus trees) backing fabric. This material does still have 31% polyurethane in its composition, so there is still some plastic. Because of the nature of the material, it is not biodegradable. Our vegan suedes are made from 100% polyurethane. We are always looking for more sustainable alternatives. None of our products uses PVC or contains PFC's." Each specific product on their website will give a general overview of the materials used to make it. For example, their Vegan Men's Dock Boots list the following:
• Italian vegan leather made with 69% bio-based content or Italian vegan suede uppers
• TR outsoles (made with recycled content)
• Recycled polyester lacing with metal lace tips

Are their shoes eco-friendly/sustainable?

From an environmentally-friendly materials standpoint, their leather-look shoes, boots and sandals could be considered quite eco-friendly (at least as far as leather-look/dress footwear is concerned, as there isn’t yet a 100% bio-based, biodegradable material in the market to satisfy leather’s specific characteristics), as they incorporate mostly plant/bio-based leathers and/or recycled materials into their designs. These materials, while not perfect, are generally considered to be more environmentally friendly than animal-derived leathers (due to the inclusion of various toxic chemicals used in the tanning process, among other reasons). This is backed up by data from inside the fashion industry as well as outside of it. For the data, please see Collective Fashion Justice’s CIRCUMFAUNA initiative.
As far as their non-leather and suede-look footwear, those models could also be considered at least somewhat eco-friendly, as they incorporate many natural and recycled materials.
They also have a fully biodegradable sneaker that they developed with leading shoe component manufacturers across Europe, and are using some of the innovations from that process to develop an entire line of biodegradable shoes.

Does production of Will's Vegan Store shoes create a lot of harmful emissions?

While Will's Vegan doesn’t share specific metrics about their CO2 production levels, they state that in 2016 they became certified carbon-neutral, and that, "Everything we do as a business, from running this website to packing your parcel, is carbon-neutral."

Does Will's Vegan use ‘green’ shipping methods?

While the brand doesn't share the specific shipping options they use, they do say that, "Through independent assessment under the Carbon Neutral Protocol of everything we do, from making our vegan products, operating our online vegan store, to shipping your parcel, we know our total carbon emissions for the year." They go on to say that, "In 2020 we invested in nature-based offsetting projects like avoiding deforestation in Papua New Guinea and Columbia to offset our carbon emissions to zero." Will's Vegan Store also says that in 2021 they opened up a warehouse in the Netherlands which massively reduces the distance parcels have to travel to their European customers, thus reducing their carbon footprint & resources used.

Which stores can I buy Will's Vegan shoes from?

Will's Vegan shoes can be purchased from their European website, from which they only ship within Europe, or from their international website from which they can ship worldwide. You can also buy Will's Vegan shoes from a variety of online and brick and mortar retailers internationally, such as The Grinning Goat, Nice Shoes, and Avesu Vegan Shoes.

Does Will's Vegan Store use eco-friendly packaging?

According to Will's, they do not use plastic bags or plastic packaging. All the materials in their deliveries are environmentally friendly, sustainable and can be recycled, and that when you receive and open your parcel, you can expect the following:
• Non-treated paper shipping bags from sustainable sources
• Non-treated cardboard boxes from sustainable sources
• Non-treated paper parcel tape from sustainable sources
• Shredded cardboard from recycled boxes in our warehouse

Are their shoes recyclable or biodegradable?

Their LDN Sneakers are biodegradable, and the rest of their footwear can be shipped back to be turned into new WVS outsoles and uppers.

How should I dispose of my old Will's Vegan shoes?

For a small fee, you can send your old Will's Vegan shoes and boots back to them, where they will have them turned into new outsoles and uppers for their shoes. Alternatively, Get it Vegan recommends either trying to have them repaired by a local cobbler, donating them to someone in need, or taking them to a clothing recycling depot (if available in your city), which can strip them down to their recyclable components.

Do their shoes ever go on sale?

We haven’t noticed any sales for their footwear or other products when visiting their site and perusing their social channels. Some of their retail partners might occasionally list Will's Vegan Store's shoes for sale though.

Where are their shoes made?

Will's Vegan Store makes their shoes in Italy and Portugal.

Are their shoes made with fair labour?

Yes! Will's Vegan Store's shoes are made in Italy and Portugal, which means their labourers are protected by the stringent labour laws of the European Union, which also include strong health and safety regulations. With regards to this, the brand says, "We are part of the ethical clothing movement. Our vegan products are ethically made. Our workers are protected. They have rights that cover:
• Working hours, time off & annual leave
• Equal pay
• Maternity
• Parental leave
• Anti-discrimination
• Compensation for discrimination victims
• Agency worker protection
• Health and safety"

Is Will's Vegan Store a charitable company?

We’ve asked their team about any charitable initiatives they're involved with (aside from investing in carbon-neutralizing their operations), and are currently awaiting reply.

Does Will's Vegan Store promote ‘slow fashion’ or a ‘circular economy'?

Will's Vegan Store incorporates several elements of a circular economy/slow fashion model, such as: making mostly unisex styles; using recycled materials; using natural materials where possible; incorporating plant-based leathers; making a fully-biodegradable sneaker; not offering items on discount; not following seasonal trends; making timeless styles; having a shoe recycling program; using very eco-friendly packaging; supporting environmental conservation efforts; and employing fair labour.
