About SKYE Footwear

"Every SKYE sneaker and sneaker boot is a high-performance shoe made convenient without traditional laces, engineered ergonomically for real feet, designed for the unpredictable day of the athleisure lifestyle, and made sustainably from biodegradable, recyclable, and/or recycled materials." - SKYE Footwear team

Are SKYE's shoes waterproof?

According to the brand, their The Mobrly and sneaker-boots are waterproof, while the rest of the SKYE styles are water-repellent.

What materials are used to make their shoes?

The uppers of their shoes are made with a type of lycra, with lots of stretch. They also use a non-woven, man-made microfibre leather. The outer material is made from recycled plastic water bottles. The outsoles are made of a recyclable EVA rubber foam. The base pods are made from a "sustainably-sourced," 100% biodegradable natural rubber. Their patented Loop-Lok is a no-tie lace system made from recycled plastic water bottles. And finally, their insole is made of PU, a polyurethane, and it’s 100% biodegradable.

Are SKYE's shoes eco-friendly/sustainable?

Although it's difficult to quantify how sustainable a shoe truly is, SKYE Footwear shoes can be considered at least somewhat eco-friendly, as they do incorporate many recycled and high-quality materials into their designs. They do not currently use any tools or programs that can quantify and share the eco-friendliness of their products, other than sharing breakdowns of the materials used in each shoe.

Does production of their shoes create a lot of CO2 emissions?

From a carbon footprint standpoint, it's difficult to asses the impact that production SKYE Footwear's shoes have, and what they do to remediate it. SKYE does not currently provide data as to their environmental impact or remediation efforts, so it's difficult to accurately asses them in these areas.

Does SKYE use green shipping methods?

It's unclear from their website if SKYE uses net-zero or negative emissions shipping partners, either domestically or internationally. We’ve asked them for clarification, and are currently awaiting reply.

Does SKYE use eco-friendly packaging?

According to the brand, all of the packaging used to house their sneakers and sneaker boots is made from recycled cardboard and paper, printed with inks and finishes that don’t render the boxes un-recyclable.

Is SKYE a charitable company?

We’ve asked their team about any charitable initiatives they're involved with (if any), and are currently awaiting reply, as there is no such information available on their website.

Are SKYE Footwear's shoes recyclable?

We've reached out to their team to get further details on this, and are awaiting reply.

How should I dispose of my worn out SKYE shoes?

We’ve asked the SKYE team if they currently have, or are developing, a shoe recycling program, and are awaiting reply. In the meantime, Get it Vegan recommends either trying to have them repaired, donating them to someone in need, or taking them to a clothing recycling depot (if available in your city), which can strip them down to their recyclable components.

Where can I buy their shoes?

SKYE shoes can be purchased from their website, and can be shipped to Canada, the United States, and many countries internationally. We've asked them if they have plans to work with retailers, and are currently awaiting reply.

Do SKYE shoes ever go on sale?

Yes - when we last visited their website, SKYE was promoting a winter sale, with select models being reduced up to 40%. SKYE also has a rewards program, details of which can be found here.

Where are SKYE Footwear's shoes made?

SKYE's shoes are designed in Vancouver, Canada, and produced in Vietnam.

Are they made with fair labour?

Being that their shoes are made in Vietnam, it's difficult for us as an outside, non-certifying 3rd party to verify whether or not SKYE ensures its factory enforces all international and local labour laws, regulations and fair working standards to provide a safe and fair working environment for their workers. On their website, the brand says, "This also comes down to ensuring we have a well-treated, happy workforce. To start, they’re all wearing SKYE shoes. We ensure equal pay and fair working conditions." The brand also says, "All our products are made at select factories, and we’re on the ground there, so there are no unknown partners in the supply chain."

Does SKYE promote ‘slow fashion’ or a ‘circular economy’?

SKYE incorporates some elements of a circular economy, such as: using high-quality materials; using recycled materials; and using recycled paper and cardboard packaging.
