Elephantsity Vegan Boots with Animal Prints

Elephantsity Might Be a Fully Vegan Brand

Elephantsity claims that all of their products are made of “100% vegan and cruelty free materials.” Although they do not currently have any certification to verify these claims, animal welfare appears to be built into the ethos and mission of the brand. However, they have never responded to our many requests for confirmation that their shoe glue does not contain animal-derived ingredients.

What materials are used to make Elephantsity shoes and boots?

Depending on the specific model, Elephantsity uses a combination of materials to produce their shoes and boots. Their uppers might be made of micro-suede (all weather boots), breathable mesh-knit fabric (sneakers), canvas (low and high-tops) and vegan leather (all other boots). Their outsoles are either made of rubber and steel shank, or a high quality EVA for traction and durability. Some of their shoes feature a soft linen interior. Some models include a removable memory foam insole pad for comfort and support. The faux-fur lining in their winter boots is made of 80% cotton and 20% polyester. Each product listing on their site gives a general overview of materials used to make that product. *Please note - we've asked Elephanstisty numerous times via email and their social channels if they can confirm that their shoe glues are free of animal-derived ingredients, and they haven't responded.

Are Elephantsity shoes and boots ethically made?

Some Elephantsity shoes are boots are made in China, and they claim that their factory there is "managed by our staff from USA and upholds very high ecological and ethical standards." It's difficult to verify as an outside, non-certifying party as to whether or not Elephantsity ensures its factory enforces all international and local labour laws to provide a safe and fair working environment for their workers. However, some of their products are also produced in Japan, in which case their partner factory must adhere to Japan's strong labour laws.

Does Elephantsity promote ‘slow fashion’ or a ‘circular economy’?

Elephantsity appears to utilize some elements of a circular economy, such as using "high-quality" materials, using a made-to-order production system (although it's not clear if that's simply for the designs, or construction of the shoes/boots themselves) and claiming to employ fair labour. One area in which they could improve is by introducing more eco-friendly materials, such as those that can be composted or recycled.
